Hosting a bridal shower? Are you stressed out over what games or activities to play? This list of ten bridal shower activities should help!
1. Bride and Groom Trivia: Before the shower, write down as many questions as you can about the bride and groom. These questions can range from innocent to racy, depending on how comfortable your guests and your bride/groom may be with them. Ask the guests the questions and have them write down their answers on a piece of paper. The guest who wins is the won who had the most questions correct!
2. Word Scramble: Make a list of 15 words relating to the wedding. Keep this list as your master list. After saving your master list, copy the words onto another list, and scramble up the letters to each word. Make copies of the list and pass out to guests during game time. Set a timer to however long you wish, usually one to two minutes is good, and have guests try to unscramble the wedding words. After the time is up, share with the guests the answers. The person with the most correct answers wins!
3. Let’s Study the Bride: This is a game of observance. Have questions pre-typed on a piece of paper about things you can physically see on the bride. Things such as: What color is the bride’s shirt? What color are the bride’s shoes? Is the bride wearing pants or shorts? What color are the bride’s eyes? Have the bride stand in the center of the room and let people study her for 30 seconds. When the 30 seconds are up, have the bride leave the room. Pass out the sheets with the questions and give everyone an allotted amount of time to answer them. Have the bride return to the room when the time is up. Answer the questions with the bride’s help and by looking at her. The person with the most correct answers wins!
4. What’s She Saying: This game is a fun one! Pass out paper and pencil to the guests. Instruct them privately, to write down the bride’s reactions when she is opening each gift. After the shower is over, share them with the bride, telling her that these are the things she will be saying on her wedding night, the first night of her honeymoon. You will most likely get statements from the bride such as these: What is this thing? How do I wear this? What do I use this for? Was this something I asked for? It is important to remember to not tell the bride what your guests are doing when they are writing down responses, or it may take away from the game!
5. Recipe Share: This isn’t really a game, but a great idea nonetheless! When sending out invitations for the shower, include a recipe card and a note. Explain that you are looking for the guests to write down a favorite recipe of theirs to bring to the shower. Each guest should arrive with a recipe to give to the bride. It is a great way to introduce the bride-to-be or the groom to some new recipes to make after they are married!
6. Memory Video: This is another idea that isn’t a game, but a great idea also! In a separate room, set up a video camera on a tripod. Do not allow the bride or the groom (should it be a couple’s shower) into the room. In the room, leave instructions on how to run the video camera and ask each person to share a favorite memory of the bride or the groom while recording themselves sharing the memory. Make sure to have all guests visit the room before the shower is over. Present the memory video to your bride or groom when the shower is over. It is a neat way to have guests share memories or well-wishes!
7. Who Am I: Before the guests arrive, fill out names of famous couples on index cards, one name per card. Examples would be: John Travolta and Kelly Preston. John Travolta would be on one card; Kelly would be on another. Make sure to have enough cards, one for each guest. When it comes time for games, tape one card on the back of each guest. Then have each guest ask the other guests “yes or no” questions about whom they could be. Questions should only be able to be answered with a “yes” or a “no”. Examples of questions would be: “Am I a man?” “Have I been married before?” “Am I real or make believe?” The object of the game is to find whom the other half of your couple is. The couple that finds their better half first is the winner! This is a great icebreaker to start the bridal shower!
8. Take a Picture: Again, not a game. This is another neat way to preserve the memory of the bridal shower. When guests arrive, take a picture of each guest with a digital camera or a regular camera. Pass out decorative pieces of paper, like paper you may use for scrapbooking. Have the guests write advice for a solid marriage to the bride, etc. Make sure the guests sign their names. Collect the paper when everyone is done. You will then have a paper with advice on it and a picture of the guest who wrote the advice. Develop or print out the pictures. Find a photo book where you can put a picture on one side and the written advice on the other. Present it to your bride and groom at a later date. It is a really neat gift, full of advice from friends and family.
9. Fill Out the Envelope: Before the bridal shower, buy (or let the bride choose) the thank you cards. When guests arrive, ask them to fill out his or her address in the “to” section of the envelope. Have the guests put the filled out envelope in a jar. After guests have completed the envelopes, draw an envelope from the jar. The name drawn is the winner. The best part is: the bride has all of the envelopes for her thank-you cards already filled out! This saves her a lot of time!
10. Toilet Paper Dress: Break your guests into two teams. Have each team pick a model. Supply each team with several rolls of toilet paper. The goal of this game is to outfit the model in toilet paper with everything a bride would need on her wedding day. The teams will need to make a toilet paper wedding dress, by wrapping the model in toilet paper and make resemble a dress. The model will also need a veil and a headpiece! Don’t forget the most important item: that sparkling engagement ring! Try to make all of these items out of toilet paper on your model. After an allotted amount of time, have your bride choose the winner!
Every bridal shower is different. Some brides want fun and games at their wedding showers. Some brides would rather not have a game, but still want something neat and interesting. It is up to the host or hostess of the shower to ensure that the bride and the groom, if in attendance, have a fun time!
