A Bridal Brunch: Ideas for a making the bride happy

This summer has been filled with parties and showers honoring brides to be. I recently attended a brunch that was just wonderful, with such delicious food and decorations.

This bride chose as her colors black and white with some silver and tangerine accents. I thought the colors sounded a bit peculiar but they really looked pretty when put together at the shower. This party was held on a Sunday morning at 10am with about 25 guests in attendance. A large basket with party favors was situated on the front hall table. The favors consisted of Chinese take out type boxes in red, blue, tangerine, yellow, and other bright colors. Attached to each box handle was a large curly ribbon arrangement in the bride’s colors. The boxes were filled with an assortment of Hershey candies.

The gifts were placed in and around a large black garden basket that was also given to the bride as a gift. A large arrangement of colorful flowers matching the Chinese boxes was placed on the food table. The tablecloth was black and silver, making good use of the bride’s colors once again.

The food was absolutely fabulous and consisted of:

Crispy bacon,
Eggs and grits casserole,
Mini lemon, pecan, and coconut tarts,
Mini Danish,
Honey baked ham and croissant rolls,
Biscuits, muffins, and
Champagne punch, along with soft drinks, coffee, and tea.

Clear glass plates were used along with stainless flatware, but paper napkins in the bright colors were used, making the table both festive and elegant. Everyone had a great time and ate a lot.

When looking for a good idea for a bridal shower, try giving a brunch. People can attend and then be home in time for other events during the afternoon with their families and friends. The food is easy to prepare and relatively inexpensive. This brunch was so much fun, and two easy recipes are printed below.

CHAMPAGNE PUNCH

3 cans (20 ounces) crushed pineapple in heavy syrup
2 cups fresh lemon juice
3 cups maraschino cherry juice
3 cups dark rum
1 cup brandy (or increase rum)
3 bottles inexpensive champagne

Thoroughly chill all ingredients. Mix everything except the champagne in a large container and keep very cold or freeze for two to three hours. When ready to serve, add the champagne. This is very good. You may substitute ginger ale for the champagne if a non-alcoholic beverage is desired.

MORNING GLORY MUFFINS
¼ cup milk
¼ cup vegetable oil
2 eggs
1 package cinnamon streusel muffin mix (15 ounce)
½ tsp cinnamon
1 8 ounce can crushed pineapple
1 small green apple, peeled and chopped fine or grated
¾ cup shredded carrots
¾ cup chopped pecans or walnuts
½ cup raisins

1 cup powdered sugar
½ tsp lemon rind
1 to 2 tablespoons lemon juice

Whisk together milk, oil, and eggs. Remove and reserve streusel mix from package. Stir together mix and cinnamon add egg mixture, pineapple, and other fruit and nuts. Stir just to moisten. Fill muffin tins 2/3 full. Sprinkle reserved streusel topping over muffins.

Bake at 425 for 18 to 23 minutes until golden brown. Cool before removing from pans. Stir the sugar, lemon rind and lemon juice until smooth and drizzle over muffins if desired.
