Bridal Party Do's and Don'ts

Don’t feel obligated to include everyone in your bridal party.

Weddings are best when they are intimate with close family and friends. Don’t feel pressured to include distant cousins and long lost high school or college friends in your wedding party. Remember that members of the wedding party are also counted as guest and keeping this number under control will help keep your overall wedding budget under control.

Do include his family and close female friends.

Avoid making the groom upset by including his family and friends. Be sure to ask him what females he would like to include. After all, if they are close to him, it’s a good chance they’ll be close by for a very long time.

Do be considerate of your bridal party’s budget.

If you know that your entire party cannot or is not willing to pay hundreds of dollars for designer dresses, then don’t give them the ultimatum to either pay it or sit out. Allow your party to option of going together as a group to pick out a dress that will fit everyone’s budget.

Don’t require your bridal party to be identical.

Some of your bridesmaids may look great with big prom hair. Others may look good in a simple do. Either way, allow your friends the flexibility to be themselves. Don’t be a stickler for total oneness. Letting them be individuals will make them happy and in turn, will make you happy.

Don’t forget that women come in all sizes.

Women like Queen Latifah, Jennifer Lopez, and Beyonce have made it easier for us to embrace our curves and love every inch of our not so thin frames. Please don’t make the mistake of picking one type of dress when you have a party of women whose sizes vary. Just because one lady looks nice in a slip dress, doesn’t mean that the rest will. But, everyone can look nice in something. Choosing different looks and varying styles in dresses is the thing to do now. Not only will your party look fabulous, but everyone will feel fabulous knowing that everything fits perfectly in the dress tailored for their body shape. Try this. Send each lady a color and fabric swatch of what you would like to see on your wedding day. Allow them to pick a dress that fits them and their budget, and there will be fewer headaches for you and your friends. This is also a great idea if members of your wedding party live in different parts of the country.

Do not be afraid to tell everyone what your expect.

Let everyone know what your dream is for your dream day. You can make your request known without being a bridezilla. If you don’t want pictures of your maid of honor with candy apple red lipstick on, then let her know what type of makeup you would like to see. Also, letting your party know what kind of affair to expect will set the tone for they type of dress, hairstyle and makeup choices they make.

Lastly, Do make the most of your day.

Keep in mind that the importance of this day goes far beyond a dress and a cake. Enjoy this once in a lifetime event and remember that your family and friends made sacrifices to share in your joy. Be sure to let them know how much you appreciate them, because them being there shows you just how much they care about you.
