Bridal showers of the new millennium aren’t the same traditional bridal showers from the days when your mother was the bride-to-be. Give the customary bridal shower a makeover by using a special theme.
A bridal shower isn’t just about giving presents to the bride. It’s about the future missus getting together with her girlfriends and closest family members as a single girl. Tamer than the bachelorette party but just as silly, bridal showers are a great way to let the bride unwind in the pre-wedding chaos.
If you’re tired of the same old, check some fresh spins on old bridal ritual.
High-School Sleep Over
Think back to the carefree days of high school, when the main priorities in life were football games, boys and prom. Be as creative and youthful as possible with this theme. Fold the shower invitations in the same fancy way you folded notes in class. Research the bride’s old teen idols and decorate the room with their posters. Instead of using fold-up chairs that are typically dragged out for such occasions, get bean bags, sleeping bags, butterfly chairs and overstuffed pillows for guests to lounge. If possible, persuade guests to come in their pajamas to really synthesize the mood. Indulge in girl talk and even play a round of Truth or Dare.
Also, forget the traditional bridal shower finger food by indulging in the more adolescent kind. Think munchies-type food like M&Ms, brownies and chips. Throw a platter or fruit or cheese into the mix for good measure, in case anyone doesn’t care for sweets.
Psychic Reading
Channel the spirits by hosting a psychic-themed bridal shower. Get real tarot cards and address them to the guests as invitations. They should help set the mood. Decorate the location of the shower with low lighting, beaded curtains and rich colors, like lush purple and magenta. Hang images of the zodiac. Hire a professional palm-reader to read the party-goers’ fortunes, especially the bride.
1920’s Speakeasy
Travel back to the overindulgence of the Jazz Age by hosting a 1920’s speakeasy-themed bridal bash. Encourage guests to dress up in the hottest fashions from the 1920’s (think flapper garb: long strands of pearls, swingy dresses, shoes without heels, a feather boa and a decorate barrette or hair band). Research the popular tunes of the day and play them for the event. And keep the drinks flowing; it’s a speakeasy after all!
Day at the Spa
This luxurious-styled party should take place at a local spa. Call ahead to discuss the possibility of reserving the facility for a few hours. Also inquire about bringing music and other types of decorations like balloons and streamers. This ultra-feminine party should have all the girls sitting around eating dainty finger food with their pants and shirt sleeves rolled up, telling embarrassing stories about the bride-to-be. Besides, what better way to treat the bride than pampering her?
