The first thing every girl wants to do when she gets engaged is find the dress of her dreams, one that will make her feel like the most beautiful woman in the world. If you have ever price shopped wedding dresses you know that you will have to work overtime for a few months to save the money to buy your dress.
Bridal shops will ask you what your dress budget is and try their hardest to get you to spend that extra thousand dollars, convincing you that it is the only way to look like a princess on your big day.
When I started planning my wedding 6 months ago I was overwhelmed, my family is one of the many who are suffering from the current economy and layoffs and my overall wedding budget was around 2,000$. I watched wedding show after wedding show for ideas and gasped as I saw brides with a 20,000$ dress budget struggle to find that perfect dress.
I am going to share with the world how I found the dress I had dreamed of for less than 200$! I know what you are thinking right now…She bought a used dress! Well, not only was it a brand new dress, but it was custom made for me in the colors we chose with my measurements.
At the end of this article I will share with you the link and store name where it was purchased and of course a picture of the dress.
I know that purchasing things online can be scary and when I began the search for a wedding dress I was terrified of doing it. When I saw the picture of the one I bought I instantly knew that it would be mine. It was the most beautiful dress I had ever seen and was only 165$! I weighed all the options and even visited a bridal shop where I found a dress close to the one I saw online, it was 2,500$ in the shop and had less detail than the one online. When I got home from the bridal shop I decided to take a chance and order that dress. As it turns out it was a very good decision. One of my friends helped me with my measurements and my mom put in the order for me. It takes 6 weeks to make and ship the dress because the company is in China and I spent the entire 6 weeks worried sick that it would not be what they claimed. The day the dress arrived I couldn’t get the package opened fast enough. As I pulled it out of the bag I was in shock, it was everything I expected and more. The embroidery work and detail was second to none, I have not seen a dress that beautiful even on platinum weddings!
The size was off a little so I began the search for someone to alter it and found a local seamstress who took on the challenge. About a week and 2 fittings later the dress was a perfect fit, I can’t wait to wear it on my wedding day! The alterations cost 50$ which made the overall cost of my dress 215$!!
My best advice is to go to a bridal shop or two and try on dresses, once you find the style that best fits you go online and visit e bay. There are a couple ways to find your dress, I searched wedding dresses and found hundreds of pages! The name of the store that I purchased from is of course the one I will recommend, they offer a wide variety and will custom make the dress to your specs. The seller name is skl-wedding.show and the store name is Bigsupermarkets. Most of their auctions offer a buy it now price and free shipping however you will see a few where you can bid some crazy price like .99 cents and pay 150$ for shipping. Either way you are getting a great deal!
Be very careful when taking measurements and I would suggest you add like 1 inch to each one. My dress fit perfectly everywhere except the rib cage and I submitted exact measurements. As I found out it is easier to take a dress in than to add to it. I needed and extra inch or two around the rib cage but the company who makes them left that much in the seams so it was a fairly simple fix.
This really is a win win deal, you just have to order the dress early enough to allow 6 weeks for making it and a couple weeks extra just in case you need alterations.
