The Wine Diaries: Planning a Wedding

Let’s just say that the two simple words “wedding planning” are not quite so simple. I think the past couple of days have caused me to get a few grey hairs. Adam recently informed me that we will, more than likely, not have enough time to have a honeymoon if we have our wedding in January 2010. Thus, we will need to move the wedding date up to August 2009. There seems to be more time between his law school semesters in August and it makes me crazy knowing that I do not have enough time to plan the wedding AND lose weight.

First of all, I am pretty positive we will be getting married in Grand Cayman. It is very clean and is supposed to be the wealthiest island in the Caribbean, due to all the international banks being located on the island. Plus, all the people we met there when we were on the cruise were very classy and extremely helpful.

On another note, I caught Adam’s sickness and have been sick again for about a week. I still feel like crap and I am getting very tired of it. But, I do want to say “thank you” to whoever sent me an article on The Hotze Clinic here in Houston. To let you know, I have actually purchased some all natural diet pills from the clinic, but have not had the chance to make an appointment.

I was very surprised to have gotten the article from one of my readers in the mail and was extremely flattered. With that said, I would like to know if anyone has stayed at The Westin or The Grand Cayman Beach Suites; or if there are any opinions on the matter? If so, please send me a comment and let me know what you think. I truly would prefer The Ritz-Carlton, but the wedding packages are outrageous. I mean $18,000 only covers the site for the wedding. So basically we would just be sitting on the grass naked with no reception – if we had the wedding there. I desperately need some opinions of the resorts before I book the wedding and I have to book the wedding like yesterday.

Now on to the dress and the bridal party attire… It has been very difficult trying to find a gown that I truly like under $5,000. I know I do not NEED Couture, but I WANT it! I found this awesome designer by the name of Chris Kole that hand designs organic cotton gowns. (Please send referral fee or complimentary gown to AC care of Tiffany D’Antonio). The website is wonderful and I actually spoke with him today when I called the store in New York and he sounds absolutely fantastic. A boutique here in Houston will have three of my favorite gowns shipped down here in early February and if I like them then he will hand sew one for me. Plus, if I lose more weight, since it is made of cotton it can be easily altered. And another bonus is that it can be dyed another color after the wedding and worn again since it is made of cotton. But who wears their wedding dress twice anyway?

The main issue I am having is trying to find bridesmaid dresses. Everything I have been seeing is just so cliché. They are either made from that nasty satin, or just plain hideous. Satin’s ok sometimes, but not for an ugly bridesmaid dress. I cannot seem to find anything that looks dressy yet tropical at the same time; and I can’t decide what Adam and his groomsmen should wear. After telling my future mother-in-law about him possibly wearing a khaki suit, she reminded me that I will be in a designer gown and that he will look like one of “the help” next to me. I guess he will need to wear a tuxedo or suit. Gosh, this is stressful!

Well, I will continue through this lovely journey called “wedding planning” and hope for the best. When I was younger I yearned for this day, but since hitting 30 I have realized how much work this really is. Hopefully, it will all be worth it once the big day arrives.

What will you celebrate?
I admit it. I am an Event Person … a true believer in any excuse for a party. In fact, when I look back, some of my biggest regrets in life involve letting a special milestone pass without enough fanfare.
